Neuromodulators (Botox/Dysport/Xeomin)

Cosmetic – MD Claiborne Dermatology (1)MD Claiborne Dermatology offers three different injectable neuromodulators approved by the FDA for treatment of facial wrinkles – Botox Cosmetic, Dysport and Xeomin. These products are the most common cosmetic neuromodulators and are one of the most effective means to reverse facial aging by weakening the ability of facial muscles to contract, creating a relaxed look. Neuromodulator injections are quick in-office procedures that require no downtime.

Each neuromodulator treatment is customized to our patients’ individual facial needs, wants and cosmetic goals. Prior to treatment, Dr. Claiborne meets with patients to discuss whether they are a candidate for neuromodulator injections. Patients that are pregnant or have a history of neuromuscular disease would not be candidates for neuromodulator injections.

Optimal facial rejuvenation outcomes come from combination therapy with dermal fillers, laser treatments and/or chemical peels.

Injectable Fillers (Restylane/Juvederm/Radiesse/Voluma/Belotero)

Cosmetic – MD Claiborne Dermatology (2)

Dermal injectable fillers are products used to correct the signs of ageing and wrinkles. As we age, our face loses the bony support in the upper parts of the face, causing the face to become flatter and sag. Dermal fillers correct this loss by adding volume to parts of the face. Dr. Cole Claiborne has extensive training in dermal fillers and has presented at multiple cosmetic conferences throughout the country. His ultimate goal is to make you look subtly enhanced, not overtly altered.

There are two basic types of dermal injectable fillers: Hyaluronic Acid Based and Non-Hyaluronic Acid Based. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in your body that helps to hold the skin taut and plump. The quantity of our own natural Hyaluronic Acid decreases as we age, resulting in lines and wrinkles. Products such as Juvederm, Voluma, Restylane and Belotero are all Hyaluronic acid-based injectable products used for non-surgical correction of moderate to severe facial lines and wrinkles.

Non-Hyaluronic Acid based injectable fillers include Radiesse, Sculptra and Bellafill. Unlike Hyaluronic Acid based products, these products are non-dissolvable but do typically last at least twice as long, in some cases at least 2 years. In 2015, the FDA approved Radiesse for hand augmentation.

Before receiving any injectable fillers, Dr. Claiborne advises his patients to stop taking any non-essential blood thinners such as aspirin or NSAIDs to minimize bruising. Procedures typically take about 30 minutes and are performed in-office. Dr. Claiborne applies numbing cream prior to the procedure to enhance patient comfort during treatment.

Common areas of injectable fillers include the following:
– Cheeks
– Lips
– Temples
– Smiles Lines
– Jowls
– Hands
– Under Eyes
– Nasolabial folds between upper lip and nose

Kybella for Chin Fat Reduction

Cosmetic – MD Claiborne Dermatology (4)

Kybella (www.mykybella.com) is the first and only FDA-approved injectable product for moderate to severe submental “double chin” fat. Dr. Cole Claiborne has been extensively trained on Kybella and has seen excellent results with treatment. Unlike Coolsculpting,Kybella works not only to dissolve the fat under the chin but also to tighten the central neck.

The active ingredient in Kybella is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a natural molecule in the body that helps in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, Kybella destroys fat cells. Once those fat cells are destroyed, they can no longer store or accumulate fat. Kybella results in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin, revealing an improved chin profile and tighter-looking jaw line.

Most patients require between 2-4 treatments depending on their treatment goals and desires. The most common side effects are swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness and areas of hardness around the treatment area. Dr. Claiborne will discuss these side effects at length prior to your treatment.

Sclerotherapy (Varicose Veins/Spider Veins)

Cosmetic – MD Claiborne Dermatology (5)

Sclerotherapy is a prescription injectable treatment for dilated spider veins and varicose veins. Dr. Claiborne typically uses Asclera polidocanol injections to irritate and damage the lining of the dilated and enlarged blood vessels causing blood platelets and cellular debris to attach to the lining of the vessels and replace the clotted vein to be replaced with tissue. On average, 87% of patients were satisfied or very satisfied with their Asclera treatment.

A typical sclerotherapy session lasts between 15 to 45 minutes depending on the number of vessels to be injected. One injection is usually administer per inch with multiple injections per session. Following treatment, it is recommended that compression stockings be worn continuously for the first 2-3 days. After the first few days, compression stockings are recommended for day-time wear for 2-3 weeks. Repeat treatments may be necessary to achieved optimal outcomes.

Microdermabrasion

Cosmetic – MD Claiborne Dermatology (8)

Microdermabrasion is an exfoliation process that uses medical grade crystals or disposable crystal-free exfoliation tips to remove the dead outermost layer of skin. The removal of the dead outer layer of skin reveals new, living skin cells that are smoother, softer and more receptive to nutrients.

Microdermabrasion is a safe, non-invasive and virtually painless procedure that can be used as an alternative to laser treatments and chemical peels to remove dead skin cells from the outermost layer of the face. It is one of the safest, most trusted procedures for improving skin tone and texture with over 15 years of success in the USA and over 30 years of success in Europe.

The microdermabrasion procedure is performed under the supervision of a certified medical professional. The operator passes a hand piece over the skin to remove the outermost layer of skin known as the stratum corneum. By y removing the stratum corneum, the underlying epidermis tissue is stimulated by the abrasion and resulting vacuum effect which promotes generation of new collagen. Microdermabrasion also thickens the dermis layer of skin and improves resistance to the effects of ageing.

Microdermabrasion is a procedure that is suited for all skin types, requires no anesthesia or recovery time, contains no hazardous chemicals, and is significantly less painful than other similar procedures.

Microderm abrasion is used to help treat or diminish the following conditions:
– Fine lines
– Wrinkles
– Sun-damaged skin
– Acne-prone skin
– Oily skin
– Blackheads/Whiteheads
– Dry/patchy skin
– Superficial age spots
– Hyperpigmentation

MD Claiborne Dermatology uses the Genesis Biosystems Microdermabrasion treatment system. You can learn more about Genesis Biosystems here.

Chemical Peels

Cosmetic – MD Claiborne Dermatology (10)

Chemical peels use a chemical solution to cause superficial trauma to the outermost skin layer so that the old tissue peels off, forcing the regeneration of newer, healthier skin tissue beneath. The regenerated skin tissue is smoother, tighter and healthier in appearance. The most common types of chemical peels use Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Beta Hydroxy Acids (also known as Salicylic Acids) or Retinoid Acids. Depending on the required intensity of the chemical peel best suited to your individual dermatologic needs, your dermatologist will suggest a superficial, medium or deep peel.

After receiving the in-office chemical peel, the patient’s skin will begin to blister and peel. Most patients describe the sensation as being similar to a sunburn. As the old layer of skin peels away, it will help reduce the appearance of acne scarring, age spots, crow’s feet, hyperpigmentation, sun damaged skin, melasma and wrinkles. Because of the use of chemicals to temporarily damage the outermost layer of the skin, it is recommended not to repeat this procedure too frequently and to avoid sun exposure for several weeks post-treatment so the new skin can heal completely.
